Historical Los Angeles News
The city has hosted the Summer Olympic Games twice, in both 1932 and 1984. Los Angeles is the only city turn turn a profit, and had done so in 1984, despite being boycotted by 14 Communist countries.
Downtown LA began to develop very heavily in the 1980's and 1990's, with a variety of skyscraper construction.
The late 20th century was plauged with gang and drug warfare and police corruption. Racial tensions peaked in 1992 with the Rodney King scandal as well as large-scale riots that followed the acquittal of his police attackers.
In 1994, the 6.7 Northridge Earthquake shook the city, causing $12.5 billion in damage and 72 deaths. There have been many major Los Angeles Earthquake, most recently in May 2009.
Michael Jackson Dead
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 as a result of cardiac arrest. The family's attorney had said that Jackson was addicted to painkillers. An autopsy was conducted on June 26, 2009, and results are to be determined.
The funeral is scheduled for July 7, 2009 at 10am PST. Fans were able to enter a lottery for tickets. The funeral will feature celebrities including Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Kobe Bryant, John Mayer and more.
Farrah Fawcett Dead
American actress, Farrah Fawcett starred in a wide variety of television shows and films, most notably The Six Million Dollar Man and Charlie's Angels. Fawcett passed away on June 25, 2009, after a three year bout with anal cancer. She chronicled her struggle with the disease in a documentary entitled, Farrah's Story. Fawcett was laid to rest on June 30, 2009, in a private Los Angeles cemetery.
Perez Hilton and Will.i.am
On June 22, 2009, celebrity gossip blogger, Perez Hilton accused Hip-hop producer Will.i.am of assaulting him outside the Soho Metropolitan Hotel. Perez had tweeted the assault and Will.i.am tweeted back that it was a lie. There have also been video allegations of the event.

The Los Angeles Lakers won the 2009 NBA Championship, recording their 15th championship in history.
Manny Ramirez, an All-Star outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to baseball on July 3, 2009 after a 50 game suspension for failing a substance abuse test.
