• The Los Angeles Kings is a professional hockey team that plays in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the National Hockey League. Since their founding in 1966, the Kings have appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals once. In 1993, they were defeated in the Stanley Cup finals by the Montreal Canadiens.

  Including the season lost to a labor dispute (2004-05), the Kings have currently not made a trip to the playoffs since 2002.

  On June 26, 2009, L.A. selected center Brayden Schenn fifth overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

  On June 27, 2009, L.A. traded C Brian Boyle to the New York Rangers for a 3rd Round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

  On July 3, 2009, L.A. traded D Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a 5th Round pick in the 2010 Draft to the Colorado Avalanche for LW Ryan Smyth.

• Early History

  The Kings joined the NHL for their first season in 1967 as part of the six team expansion that doubled the league. Their first few seasons were less than successful, finishing with more losses than wins each season. It was not until the 1974-75 season, that the Kings finished with more wins than losses.
