May 17, 2009 Earthquake
On the evening of Sunday, May 17, 2009, a earthquake occurred at 8:39:36 p.m. (PDT) in the Los Angeles area. Although the earthquake was originally reported to be a 5.0, it was later downgraded to a magnitude of 4.7 by a U.S. Geological Survey seismologist.A 3.1 aftershock occurred a few minutes later, at approximately 8:45 p.m, the original incident. On September 30, 2008, just before 8 p.m., Los Angeles was jolted by a minor 3.0 earthquake, centered near El Segundo. The quake caused no damage. Just over two months earlier, on July 29th, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake jarred the Southern California region.
