Loquat

The loquat, native to southern China, is an oval-shaped, slightly tart tree fruit that ranges in color from orange to white.

Japan is the leading producer of loquats, followed by Taiwan and China.

Culinary Uses

The loquat is similar to an apricot, containing high sugar, acid, and pectin content. It mixes well with other fruits and slightly immature loquats are best for making pies or tarts. The is also used to make jams, jellies, and chutneys, and are delicious poached in light syrup.
