London Gatwick Airport

  • Located 28 miles South of London, London Gatwick Airport is the second largest London airport, behind London Heathrow Airport. It is a main hub for British Airways and easyJet airlines as well as many charter flights. The airport has two terminals and two runways, although only one of the runways is typically used. It is one of seven airports owned and operated by BAA Limited.
  • History

The airport dates back to the early 1930s when it was used as a flight school and as a hub for charter cargo planes. The modern version of the airport was built in the 1950s, causing a shutdown of operations for two years while the renovations took place. The airport went through several changes in ownership in the following decades. It also went though further renovations in 2000 and 2005.
