Lockerbie is a small town in Scotland most known for the explosion of Pan Am Flight 103, which blew up over the town on December 22, 1988. 259 passengers and 11 people on the ground died in the bombing. A former Libyan intelligence officer, Abdelbaset ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, was convicted of placing a bomb inside a suitcase that was brought onto the airplane.
