Livan Hernandez

  • Livan Hernandez is a right-handed pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. A native of Cuba, Hernandez defected to the United States in 1995. In 1996 the Florida Marlins signed Hernandez as an amateur free agent. Hernandez made his major league debut with the Marlins on September 24, 1995, pitching 3 scoreless innings in a Marlins win over the Atlanta Braves. Hernandez was the MVP of the Marlins 1997 World Series championship team, and finished 2nd to Scott Rolen in Rookie of the Year voting. In 1999 the Marlins traded Hernandez to the San Francisco Giants for Jason Grilli and Nate Bump. After three seasons in San Francisco, the Giants sent Hernandez, Edwards Guzman, and cash to the Montreal Expos in exchange for Jim Brower and Matt Blank. Hernandez pitched two seasons in Montreal, and and another season and a half with the Washington Nationals when the Expos moved to Washington, DC. On August 7, 2006 the Nationals traded Hernandez along with cash to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Matt Chico and Garrett Mock. After a year in Arizona, Hernandez signed a one-year deal with the Twins.
