History

In 1864, in an effort to suppress Lithuanian nationalism, Russia banned the printing of books in Lithuanian, requiring any publications to be printed in Russian, Polish, Belorussian or Latin. The ban was lifted in 1904.Omniglot: Lithuanian (Lietuviu Kalba) U.S. Department Of State: Background Note: Lithuania-
