Hybrid Style
What sets Linkin Park apart from other bands out there is their use of two lead vocalists. Chester Bennington is known for using growling and screaming vocals, while intertwining them with melodic singing. Mike Shinoda, the group's resident MC, provides all the rap vocals used in their songs. Between the two of them they create a sound that makes them unique and recognizable.
Their trademark sound was featured in their first two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora, but since that time, the sounds has evolved and changed. Their third album, Minutes to Midnight, was released on May 15, 2007 and debuted at #1 on the Billboard music charts. In 2009, Linkin Park released a new song "New Divide" which was written for the Transformers Revenge of the Fallen movie. They also contributed to the score for the film.
After the first single, "The Catalyst," from their fourth album, A Thousand Suns, debuted in August 2010, fans had mixed feelings on the evolution. Some were open to the new sound, noting their "creativity and uniqueness, things that some 'great' bands sometimes lack because they are afraid to lose fans," while others disliked the change, saying "I just hate the direction they went with their sound with Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns... [The] new song doesn't even sound like them at all."http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1646665/20100827/linkin_park.jhtml
