Link is a video game character in the Legend of Zelda franchise developed by Nintendo. http://zeldaclassic.armageddongames.net/walkthroughs/zeldamanual.txt Since his debut in 1986, Link has appeared in over ten video game titles. Though his role is slightly modified, he is nearly always the main, playable character in each game.
In addition to defending Hyrule on the Nintendo consoles, Link has appeared in several manga and comics as well as a briefly-syndicated television series. Because the actual Link character changes in each game, his age tends to fluctuate, but he is always recognizable for his green tunic, tights, and cap.
In 2005, Link was inducted into the Walk of Game alongside creator Shigeru Miyamoto and characters Mario of the Super Mario Bros. franchise and Sonic from Sonic the Hedgehog. http://web.archive.org/web/20080121064109/http://www.walkofgame.com/inductees/inductees2005.html
Background
Link was first introduced in The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System. A young boy tasked with the work of a hero, Link must save the Princess Zelda from the evil wizard Gaman, retrieve the stolen Triforce of Power, and restore Hyrule to its former glory. http://www.mobygames.com/game/legend-of-zelda In subsequent early titles such as Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Link continues to retrieve stolen artifacts; Triforces of immense power that have fallen into the wrong hands. In later titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a new Link must continue the tradition of retrieving and using legendary items, a trend that is kept alive even in the most recent Zelda titles like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Nintendo Wii. In addition to the standard overhead-map action-adventure style of most Legend of Zelda titles, Link is playable in the Super Smash Bros. franchise and cameos in several other video games including Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest.
A boy of few words, Link has very little spoken dialogue and thus little variation in voice actors. Most incarnations of the Legend of Zelda games include the grunts and battle cries of original voice actor Noboyuki Hiyama. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0387033/ Later voice work for the character is done by Akira Sasanuma. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1416909/
In 1989 Link made his television debut as part of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. Considered a very loose adaptation of the first game, Link was portrayed as less the hero and more the lovesick teenager. http://web.archive.org/web/20071016053150/http://www.zeldalegacy.net/zelda-cartoons.php In addition to the brief syndication of the Captain N television series in the early 90s, Link starred in several comics produced by Variant and a manga published in Nintendo Power magazine. http://web.archive.org/web/20071013010813/http://www.zeldalegacy.net/zelda-manga-comics.php

Link in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
A much darker story for Link is presented in this gameplay trailer for The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, released for the Nintendo Wii platform. One of the first games to make use of the motion gaming technology of the Wii remote, Twilight Princess allows players the chance to take control of an older Link as he battles once again to save Zelda and the kingdom of Hyrule.
