    Hamilton studied acting in New York under Lee Strasberg, and had her first on-screen role on the soap opera Secrets of Midland Heights in 1980. In 1984 she broke out, starring as Vicky in the Stephen King adaptation Children of the Corn, and then later in her most important role as Sarah Conner in the sci-fi/action film The Terminator directed by James Cameron. Hamilton became famously known as Sarah Conner, and went on to star in the film's sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which grossed over $500 million and became the number-one grossing film for its time.

    In addition to her successes in big-screen film productions, Linda Hamilton has also received critical praise for her television ventures. In 1987 Hamilton starred as Catherine Chandler in the TV miniseries Beauty and the Beast, for which she received Emmy and Golden Glob nominations. She also won a Satellite Award in 1999 for her role as Anne Sipes in The Color of Courage.
