Originally founded in 1856 as the town of Lancaster, The town was renamed in 1965 after the late President Lincoln. It officially became the capital when Nebraska became a state on March 1, 1867.

    Being the state capital, the Nebraska State Fair is held in Lincoln each year in late August/early September. Visitors can tour the capital building, that dates back to the 1920s.
