The band, originally named Bliss, played regularly at the Malibu Vineyard Church in 1996. They changed their name to Lifehouse, in keeping with their plan to go mainstream. In a 2001 Concert Live Wire Magazine interview, the band's vocalist, Jason Wade, mentioned that finding a new name for the band took seven months. http://www.concertlivewire.com/interviews/lifehouse.htm
The band's music has been compared to that of Pearl Jam and Creed. They have also been often referred to as a Christian band despite the band's insistence that they are not. http://www.christianitytoday.com/iyf/music/christianalternatives/22.28.html

Quotes
My music is spiritually based, but we don't want to be labeled as a 'Christian band,' because all of a sudden people's walls come up and they won't listen to your music and what you have to say. http://www.kaleochurch.com/article/the-role-of-the-christian-artist-in-the-secular-world

As far as our chemistry goes, we just really know each other now. We know what pisses each other off and how to avoid it. We keep each other level headed, we vent to each other. We leave our egos at the bus door. We're good to go. http://www.myspace.com/lifehouse

Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment Music Video
Jason Wade, Lifehouse's lead singer, wrote this song that was to become the most played song in US radio in the year 2001. The band chose this song as their debut single from their very first commercial album, No Name Face, because of it was radio-friendly. The video is directed by Gavin Bowden who has done videos by Red Hot Chilli Peppers as well.
