  On January 6, 2009, People Magazine reported that Johnson quit his job as an electrical apprentice for ASRC Energy Services Inc. in North Slope County, Alaska, after his eligibility for the program was questioned. The position requires a high school diploma, in which Johnson doesn't have. Johnston's father, Keith, who also works for the company, stated, "He felt it was the best thing to do to kind of calm the waters, so to speak."
