Lesotho is only one of three remaining monarchies in Africa, it is a landlocked country that is completely surrounded by the Republic of South Africa. It is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.
The majority of the country's land lies above 5,900 feet in elevation. Water is its only significant natural resource and it exports much of it to South Africa.
Due to a shortage of supplies and trained personnel this country has an extremely high incidence of AIDS and [[HIV_%28Human_Immunodeficiency_Virus%29|HIV]] infections.
