Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is a three-time Academy Award-nominated and two-time Golden Globe-winning American actor. Though appearing in films in the mid-1990s to considerable acclaim, his breakthrough role came in 1997 in James Cameron's Titanic.

Leonard DiCaprio was named Global Ambassador for Tag Heuer in early January 2009, taking the place of actor Brad Pitt, who was an ambassador for the company for six years. Tag Heuer's spokesperson made the following comment about DiCaprio, "Leonardo perfectly embodies this call-to-action with his exceptional talent, extraordinary mental strength and unfettered commitment to social and environmental issues." The actor will appear in ads for the company's Carrera Day-Date watch in the spring of 2009. DiCaprio started as a darling of the indie cinema, earning his first Oscar nomination at age 19 in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. He also received critical praise for his turn as a mental patient in Marvin's Room in 1996. After he achieved worldwide notoriety from Titanic, DiCaprio shrunk away from major starring roles and chose smaller films such as Danny Boyle's The Beach and Woody Allen's Celebrity.

Since 2002, DiCaprio has appeared in three films by director Martin Scorsese: Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed. He will also appear in Scorsese's 2009 films The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt and Shutter Island. DiCaprio says he likes working with Scorsese because he appreciates the entire construct of the film and pays attention to every character, no matter how minute.
