Items and Features
- Batcave: This is the hub world. Aside from selecting which Chapter and level to play, you can also visit your Hero Trophy Room to see your completed Mini-Kits and the Batcomputer to purchase items and extra content using Studs.
- Arkham Asylum: This is another hub world of sorts. You can access it after completing a Chapter from the Heroes' set of levels by throwing the lever east of the Batcomputer. Every time you complete a Chapter from the Heroes, a new Chapter can be played in Arkham Asylum, telling the story's events from the villain's point of view.
- Build-Its: A pile of Legos on the ground, bouncing up and down. You can assemble them into objects by holding B. Throughout the game you'll often have to break objects into pieces and re-use those pieces as "Build-Its".
- Studs: These can be collected in levels to purchase extras, upgrades for your Batsuits and Robin-suits, new characters, and more.
- Lego Canisters: Each level has ten of these hidden throughout the level. Most of them can be found only in Free Play mode. Finding all ten will assemble a "Mini-Kit", giving you a big Stud bonus at the end of the level.
- Red Power Brick: Each level has one of these hidden in it. Finding these allows you to buy extremely useful extra features from the Batcomputer. Most of these can be found only in Free Play mode.
- Hostages: There are 25 "hostages" located in various levels. Rescue them all to unlock rare content.
- Free Play: After completing any level, you may replay it in Free Play mode. In this mode, you can select from any unlocked character you have to play as, as well as all Batsuits/Robin-suits you've found. The game will also let you switch to a pre-selected set of characters within the level. Free Play mode is the only way to find all the secrets in a level. The game will always try to make sure your pre-selected character set will be the very ones you need to find all the secrets. It's best that you take advantage of Free Play after you've unlocked all the special Suits, as well as unlocking Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and Poison Ivy from beating Villain Chapter 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 and Joker from Villain Chapter 3-1.
- Superhero: If you collect enough Studs in one level, you will reach "Superhero" status. If you get Superhero status for every level in the game, you will unlock two bonus levels to play on. Getting Superhero is mostly simple: don't die too often (as that penalizes you in Studs), and try to break ANYTHING that looks like Lego. You can also get big bonuses from grabbing Studs while a multiplier effect is going (usually from landing combos on enemies). The easiest thing to do is to collect all the Red Power Bricks in Villain Chapter 2 as soon as possible. Combined, they will multiply your Stud earnings by a whopping 3840 times, basically giving you instant Superhero status from just collecting a few Studs.
Batsuits
Every time you find a new Batsuit, you will have unlocked it and can use it in Free Play mode.
- Demolition Suit: Allows you to set a Bat Bomb. You can set multiple bombs and then detonate them all by holding B. They can destroy all "steel" objects in the game.
- Sonic Suit: Allows you to fire a sonic wave that can wreck bulletproof glass, which is otherwise invulnerable even to Bat Bombs.
- Glide Suit: Allows you to glide through the air after a jump, clearing big gaps in one leap.
- Heat Protection Suit: Allows you to walk on scalding hot objects as well as handle hot Build-Its.
Robin-Suits
Every time you find a new Robin-suit, you will have unlocked it and can use it in Free Play mode.
- Magnet Suit: Allows you to walk on walls that have metal plates and strips with a sheen on them.
- Water Suit: Allows you to dive and walk around underwater, as well as swim about submerged.
- Technology Suit: Allows you to use specific computer panels located in various levels; these computer panels can do various tasks, from opening doors and starting up machines to controlling remote-controllable vehicles.
- Attract Suit: Allows you to suck up small, specific red, green, and yellow Lego pieces; these types of pieces are usually hidden under other Lego objects. You can then feed them to "Attracto Machines", which in turn will provide you either secret items or a feature to beat the level with.
