The story mode of LEGO Batman follows the plot where Batman and Robin must recapture villains who have escaped from Arkham Asylum. There are 30 levels to the game - 15 featuring the heroes, and 15 where players control the villains. Each level must be beaten first in story mode with the character the level actually belongs to before the level can be played in Free Play Mode, where any character, including those made out of mixed and matched LEGO parts, can be used.
