  • The Versus Mode in Left 4 Dead pits two teams, of Humans and Infected (Zombies), against each other. The Human side's objective is to reach a safe room, while the Infected side's goal is to destroy the other team.

    Humans get weapons, ammo, and health packs, but the Infected play differently - there are four different types of Infected that the player can randomly spawn as: Boomers, Smokers, Hunters and Tanks.Shacknews: Left 4 Dead Hands-on Impressions of Versus Mode (October 16, 2008) Each type has a different ability like vomiting, tentacle-tongues, ambush moves and more.   • Infected Types in Left 4 Dead Versus Mode

    1. Boomers: Can vomit on a target leaving bile that attracts more zombies
    2. Smokers: Use a long tongue to suffocate victims
    3. Hunters: Can pounce on enemies and slash them to death while they're down
    4. Tank: Huge with lots of health, strong enough to throw dumpsters and has to keep doing damage
