Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice Walkthrough

Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice Walkthrough

Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice is downloadable content video game released for the Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 games. It functions as a prologue to Left 4 Dead 2, showing what happened to the original four survivors: Bill, Francis, Zoey, and Louis. The content is free for PC players to download, but console players will need to pay for two separate installments.

In addition to the new maps, this content also features new dialogue for the original survivors regarding Special Infected monsters that were not available in the original Left 4 Dead. There's also some new achievements to unlock, as well as extra mutation modes for those players that have acquired Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing DLC. The campaign itself is still thrilling, and still includes the “The Director”, the code name for the dynamic scripting that adjusts the level of enemies and items you can find based on your group’s current performance and current situation.

The story is simple: the four survivors from the original Left 4 Dead, Bill, Francis, Zoey, and Louis, are trying to reach watercraft they can use to sail away from and escape the zombie-infested mainland. However, disastrous bad luck near the end of their quest will require one of them to make a hard choice in order to save the entire group. The survivors will also be taking on monsters they hadn't encountered in the original Left 4 Dead campaign, such as Chargers, Spitters, and Jockeys, as well as special types of established Special Infected enemies such as a unique version of the Tank enemy. The campaign itself can be fairly difficult for the average Left 4 Dead campaign, containing a high amount of tanks to battle and a lot of Special Infected to fight off in general.

Basics

Contents

Tier #1 Weapons

  1. Pump Shotgun: It's a great early-game weapon, doing a lot of damage up close. However, it does have a lousy firing rate and innacurate at long range.
  2. Chrome Shotgun: It's got a very tight spread compared to the Pump Shotgun, making it very accurate at farther ranges, but it does less damage per second generally.
  3. Submachine Gun: Great weapon only if it's burst fired and you reload VERY frequently, as otherwise you will run out of ammo and/or go dry in the clip very fast. This is a pretty accurate weapon at long range, especially if you crouch and shoot.
  4. Silenced Submachine Gun: Compared to the Submachine Gun, it has greater stopping power but poorer accuracy. It also bucks around a lot when fired, further hurting your aim.

Tier #2 Weapons

  1. Tactical Shotgun: This is one of the best weapons to take down crowds and hordes of zombies. It has a massive spread, good target penetration, and no pump action, meaning you can just fire away and tear apart groups. It's also a great weapon against the hardiest enemies in the game like Tanks and Witches, but only at close range. However, the huge spread makes friendly fire and long-range shooting a real headache.
  2. Combat Shotgun: Much tighter spread than the Tactical Shotgun, making it a more precise weapon, if not better at clearing crowds. Otherwise, it's mostly the same.
  3. Hunting Rifle: This is always a one-hit kill on regular zombies, but against Special Infected, you still want to aim for headshots. The accuracy and bullet penetration is ridiculous as well, and the rate of fire is great. It also comes with a scope, making it great for Tanks and Witches. At close range, it's pretty slow and cumbersome, so make sure to stay back at all times.
  4. Sniper Rifle: Not as powerful or accurate as the Hunting Rifle, but the great magazine size makes it a much better option in hectic situations.
  5. M-16: Very versatile weapon that is very strong, accurate, fast, effective. The only problem is that on higher difficulties, the increased enemy stamina and effectiveness means you must really be skilled to make the most of it.
  6. Combat Rifle: It's more accurate than the M-16 and fires three-round bursts, making for some high damage output. The burst fire can be irritating in hectic situations though, as is the awful reload time.
  7. AK-47: This does absurd damage for a rifle-type weapon, almost at a sniper-weapon level, making it a great choice against tough enemies in wide-open areas, or at close range. The accuracy is absolutely hideous, however, if you use a Laser Sight you can really devastate with this.

Melee/Pistols

  1. Melee Weapons: Melee weapons come in various kinds like crowbars, katanas, frying pans, etc. and do big damage to enemies. The only drawback is of course that the enemies tend to prefer close range combat, are hard to hit, and some enemies cause short-range collateral damage when killed (such as Smokers, Boomers, and Spitters). Generally melee weapons are extremely effective in the hands of skilled players.
  2. Chainsaw: This is a unique melee weapon in that it runs on fuel and will expire when it eventually runs out. The advantage is that it does absolutely ridiculous damage when swung and is the best melee weapon to use against Special Infected.
  3. P220: Standard pistol-type weapon; essentially a weaker firearm that never runs out of ammo.
  4. Glock: You get this if you collect another pistol, essentially duel-wielding a P220 and Glock at the same time. This is techincally the strongest way to do damage with pistol-type weapons. The reload time is bad though, and the set-up is not good for fighting off enemies if you are incapacitated.
  5. Magnum: This does big damage (a one-hit kill on all regular zombies), has unlimited ammo like all pistols, and is very helpful for defending yourself if you are incapacitated. It's not strong enough to replace your main gun in real combat though.

Special Firearms

  1. Grenade Launcher: This replaces your primary weapon if you collect it. Ammo for it cannot be refilled through normal means; you generally use it till it runs out. The weapon fires impact grenades that can demolish crowds of enemies if used right, such as striking objects zombies are standing next to, or shooting a grenade into a crowd. Fast Special Infected are hard to hit with it though.
  2. M60: This replaces your primary weapon if you collect it. Ammo for it cannot be refilled through normal means; you generally use it till it runs out. It's basically a super-strong AK-47, destroying regular zombies in one shot. If you use a Laser Sight on it, it becomes the best weapon in the game, dropping the strongest foes with ease.
  3. Heavy Machine Gun: A mounted machine gun that can't be carried. It has unlimited ammo, but can overheat if you fire it steady for too long. In The Sacrifice, there's a useful one on the bridge that can be handy for protecting Survivors that need to start up the final generator.

Grenades/Explosives

  1. Molotov: This is a grenade-type weapon. Throwing this will ignite a swath of flames that will kill regular zombies running through it, and ignite the Special Infected whom will eventually die from fire damage. Molotovs also do not affect the environment (such as set off car alarms), though they can detonate other explosives.
  2. Pipe Bomb: This is a grenade-type weapon. Throwing this will cause the enemies to become distracted by it, and run towards it. It then detonates after several seconds, devastating the area around it. It's powerful enough to stun a Tank.
  3. Bile Bomb: This is a grenade-type weapon. Throwing it will release a splash of bile upon impact that will cause the enemies to race towards the bile instead, attacking any living thing (even fellow enemies) covered in bile. It's great for causing "monster infighting" and buying time during a heavy invasion.
  4. Gas Can: This is a portable explosive object you can carry and throw or drop. When shot, it causes a flame blast similar to the Molotov. You can set up firewalls with these to help thwart hordes and heavy invasions.
  5. Propane Tank: This is a portable explosive object you can carry and throw or drop. When shot, it causes a massive explosion, destroying weaker enemies in range and staggering Tanks. It's best used in combination with a Bile Bomb.
  6. Oxygen Tank: This is a portable explosive object you can carry and throw or drop. It's very similar to the Propane Tank except that it does not explode immediately when shot, instead exploding a few seconds afterward.
  7. Fireworks: This is a portable explosive object you can carry and throw or drop. It works just like the Gas Can when shot, causing a flame blast similar to the Molotov. The only real difference is that these are easier to use in setting traps as they don't bounce around when thrown or dropped.
  8. Explosive Barrel: When shooting these, they cause a massive explosive display that works as a combined Gas Can/Propane Tank blast. Unfortunately, these are completely stationary, and cannot be carried.

Items

  1. First Aid Kit: Using this will fully heal either the player or any Survivor of their choice.
  2. Defibrillator: Using this will resurrect any dead Survivor.
  3. Pain Pills: Using this will give you "temporary health" that will eventually disappear from your life meter over time.
  4. Adrenaline: This has the same effect as the Pain Pills save that it also prevents your character from being affected by fatigue, impeding terrain such as shallow water, and pushback from regular zombie attacks. It also greatly speeds up your movement and actions.
  5. Laser Sight: Greatly improves accuracy of your weapon. The catch is that it is extremely rare. It is best saved for weapons you prefer using. It can make certain firearms beastly, especially the stronger firearms that have poor accuracy like the AK-47. Do not waste it on shotguns and sniper-type weapons if you can help it, it doesn't do much for them.
  6. Incendiary Ammo: This upgrades the ammo of your gun to do fire damage, devastating regular zombies and setting stronger enemies on fire. It lasts for one full magazine. It's best used on guns that are not normally one-hit kill weapons.
  7. Explosive Ammo: This upgrades the ammo of your gun to explode on contact, causing splash damage to anything nearby. It can wreck the Special Infected, even Witches. It lasts for one full magazine. It's best used on guns with high magazine capacities.

Enemies

  1. Common Infected: These are the regular zombies. They will run up to you and try to claw you down. They often come in "hordes" of dozens; you can accidentally spawn hordes through various means such as setting off car alarms.
  2. CEDA Infected: This is a regular zombie in a hazmat suit. They can't be set on fire and can take a lot of damage unless shot through their suit window. They sometimes drop Bile Bombs when killed.
  3. Worker Infected: A regular zombie wearing construction worker gear, including soundproof earmuffs. They are immune to distractions such as Pipe Bombs and Bile Bombs.
  4. Riot Infected: A regular zombie wearing riot gear. They are immune to damage from the front and must be shot/melee'd in the back. The only exceptions are if you are using ammo upgrades, explosives, or the Chainsaw. If you need to get behind one, shove it first, if you can. They sometimes carry Nightsticks.
  5. Clown Infected: A regular zombie wearing clown shoes. The squeaky shoes will cause the other zombies to follow it around.
  6. Mud Man Infected: A regular zombie covered in mud that runs on all fours. It scurries around pretty fast and will splash mud on your screen, blocking your view.
  7. Survivor Infected: A regular zombie that's implied to have been a former, unnamed Survivor. They have a ton of health and are hard to headshot thanks to their armored helmets. They drop items when killed, the catch being that they often run away from you.
  8. Boomer: A Special Infected. They chase after you and when shot enough times will explode into a shower of Bile. If the Bile hits any Survivors, it will immediately summon a horde as well as affect your vision for a while. It can also puke Bile onto you if you let it.
  9. Smoker: A Special Infected. It has a long prehensile tongue and can ensnare Survivors with it. If it does, it will drag the Survivor over to it and attack it with it's claws; other Survivors will have to attack the Smoker or its tongue to free the other. It explodes into a cloud of smoke when it's killed, causing those in range to cough and make themselves known to other enemies.
  10. Hunter: A Special Infected. They can make huge leaps across large distances and if they manage to pounce on a Survivor, they will claw the heck out of him/her until the Survivor is dead or they are knocked back by another Survivor.
  11. Spitter: A Special Infected. They spit highly damaging acid that is extremely deadly. They also explode into a pool of acid when killed, making melee/close range combat with them a bad idea.
  12. Jockey: A Special Infected. They can leap far like the Hunter can, and if they land on a Survivor, they will try to steer him/her into hazards such as cliffs, Witches, etc. They are also all-around fast and hard to hit, especially with melee.
  13. Charger: A Special Infected. They will literally charge at your group, tackling one Survivor and knocking the others side. If they tackle a Survivor during a charge, they will continue running with him/her until they slam the Survivor against an object or hard surface, after which they will then bash the Survivor until either of them are dead. They have lots of health and cannot be headshot while charging.
  14. Tank: A Special Infected. They will simply run at the group and attempt to crush them with their incredible strength and high defense. They can throw Survivors and heavy objects such as parked cars around, and can even rip chunks of rocks dug up from the ground and throw them. They generally will try to take one Survivor out at a time. Use explosives to stagger them and fire damage to chip at their health. If it's whacking at another Survivor, try bashing it with melee weapons, which do good damage.
  15. Witch: A Special Infected. These women sit on the ground or wander about weeping. If you startle it by shooting or touching it, it will go berserk and slaughter the offender with powerful melee attacks that will do massive damage on normal modes and instant death on Expert (i.e. NOT K.O., but instant, permanent death unless you have a Defibrillator). Ideally you want to avoid provoking them at all costs, but sometimes the game puts them in choke points that makes this impossible; if that's the case, try to use explosives and fire traps to slow her down and use high-powered, accurate weapons like the Grenade Launcher, Combat Shotgun or Sniper Rifles. If you got a Tier 2 level shotgun and are skilled enough, you can "crown" a relaxed Witch before it can ever go berserk by shotgunning it in the head.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice Walkthrough - Docks Part 1

  1. After the cutscene with the train, go down tot he dock and grab the equipment, including a chrome shotgun, health kit, and melee weapon.
  2. Follow the path up past the chain link gate to the house above. Raid it for a magnum if you like, but otherwise, lead the team inside and hold out against the Jockeys, Smokers and Boomers, along with the other zombies.
  3. If you look outside the windows inside the house, you can get the drop on zombies in the alley below by shooting the explosive barrels. Do so, then head into the alley and fight your way to the area underneath the broken bridge. Watch out for Spitters and Jockeys that will try to steer you into Spitter slime.
  4. Go underneath the bridge to the other side for a big zombie brawl. Head into the nearby boathouse with the corpses inside for some supplies. Continue on the linear path and you will find a building on the left you can raid for Pipe Bombs and Adrenaline.
  5. Continue on the linear path and it will end into a boatyard with a train wreck nearby. Inside one of the wrecked cars is a special Tank enemy, a bit more dangerous than the usual ones. You'll need to let him loose and kill him to progress.
  1. First, clear out the hordes if any are around. Then, open the train cart door and immediately backpedal, trying to headshot the Tank. If you have something like the Sniper Rifle and are a crackshot, you can kill it quickly, otherwise, hit it hard before it demolishes your group.
  2. After downing the Tank, deal with any surviving zombies and open the inside train cart door to enter a train yard. Go right from exiting the cart and follow the linear path through the yard.
  3. Keep an eye out for Hunters and other foes as you follow the tracks to a shipping area. Stay on the left to get the majority of lurking zombies, and spot some weapons and items.
  4. The path will eventually curve right into a refinery. First, clear out all the zombies in the pit inside before going in, then progress slowly and watch for zombies dropping from above you.
  5. Keep moving and you will eventually enter a room with stairs leading up to a control booth. Stock up if you can, then enter the next area. Kill the zombies you see before dropping down into the trench below, which will lead to the safehouse.
  1. Fight your way to to the area outside. There will be some thick hordes when you first exit the building; watch your flanks especially.
  2. After clearing the first area, move carefully around the bend ahead to another big fight. There's lots of Boomers and Spitters here, and getting slimed by a Boomer will be really inconvenient as you'll have a hard time shooting off zombies coming from every angle.
  3. Continue on into a forest. Keep a careful eye on the structures as you progress through the forest; there's loads of enemies, including Smokers and Jockeys, ready to pester you. Having a weapon with high muzzle flash will be helpful for spotting enemies in the dark.
  4. As you fight through the forest, you will encounter a small pond. A Tank will attack here; watch out for him and use the trees as cover if you need to.
  5. Past the Tank is a fenced-in structure guarded by zombies. Wipe them out, then enter the building. There's plenty of ways in, but it's best to look for a side window you can crawl into to flank the foes inside.
  6. Blast your way through the building, carefully watching for Hunters and Boomers. Explore the house for weapons and items you need; there will be a Combat Shotgun in the garage area.
  7. Get through the building back outside and blast your way down to the shoreline at the end of the road.
  1. Down at the shoreline, look for a wrecked schooner you can raid for Adrenaline, then cross the river, watching for Hunters, Jockeys, Spitters, and other threats as you reach the other side.
  2. On the other side, carefully hit the next building ahead as there are going to be flanking attacks from Spitters, Boomers, and Jockeys, along with a big horde of zombies, right as you exit to the road ahead.
  3. Be VERY careful if you battle on the road ahead. You might accidentally set off car alarms, and if you do, you'll get sieged by hordes, including Chargers, Jockeys, and more. Get the Chargers first; hopefully they will tackle an ally and not you, allowing you to help kill it. If you do cause trouble, try climbing the structures in the area to help you get the drop on the crowds below.
  4. Follow the linear down the road to a quarry. Climb the quarry pile over to a scaffold that leads onto the titular "Barge". You will hear Witches crying, and indeed, one is on the scaffold ahead. Take it down with long range firepower, or cr0wn her if you are good at doing so. Watch out for hordes attacking you as you do this.
  1. Get over the Barge to the other side, crossing other derelict ships as you do so. Snipe every zombie in your way and head to the buildings ahead.
  2. Enter the building on your right for supplies if you need them, then climb over the brick wall and clear the area ahead.
  3. With the area below cleared, follow the road flares to the safehouse inside the building at the end of the line. There will be some resistance as you make your way to the safehouse, including Chargers storming from the building.
  1. Blaze a trail through the alleyway past the safehouse into the warehouse ahead. Pop any zombies in your path and get ready for a massive wave once you exit the warehouse on the other side.
  2. With the crowds quieted down, search for the raised bridge. Your goal is to lower it, and to do that you need to find three generators. They are marked with a blue aura as are pick-ups and survivors.
  3. Generator #1 is in plain sight to the right of the bridge, if you are facing it from the main road. There's a massive stash of weapons and first aid there if you need it.
  4. At the intersection in front of Generator #1 is a white mule truck and white van. Walk down the street where the white mule truck is and you will spot Generator #2 around the bend where the street turns left.
  5. For Generator #3, head down the street the white van is parked at and enter the building on your right at the dead end. The generator is on the second floor catwalks.
  6. Each generator triggers a horde after you turn it on, which will include Tanks, Chargers, Spitters, Boomers, and more. The shotgun is really great to punish rushing Tanks with, and you can set up traps using propane tanks and gas cans beforehand. Just make sure to not position your characters in a way that can get them trapped in corners.
  1. With the bridge lowered, hustle over to it and climb up the ladder to the top. Look for a control panel up top and activate it to raise the bridge. The surviving members of your group must be on the bridge in order for you to be able to use the control panel.
  2. After raising the bridge with the control panel, Generator #1 will fail, and you, the player character (or a human ally), will need to go back and turn it on. There will be a squad of Tanks trying to defend it, along with hordes of zombies. If you have them, use Bile Bombs and other distractions to keep the foes busy, or flee into one of the side alleys to lure the Tanks away from Generator #1. Whatever strategy you use, you will need to move quickly before your allies awaiting at the bridge are overwhelmed.
