Through a series of 27 video lessons including easy-to-understand diagrams, Jen -- a guitar instructor who's been playing since she was 13 -- will show you all the basic guitar essentials to get you on your way to becoming a guitar hero. Start to finish, the course runs about an hour long, but you should expect to spend three hours running through it at a slow, steady pace, adding in time for your own additional practice and review of difficult concepts.

Last Monday, Mahalo hit a huge milestone—we launched our first iPad app! This week, we're ranked number nine in the music section of the app store. If you haven't already, you can buy our “Learn Guitar” app for only $0.99. Such a steal considering that private lessons cost significantly more. The great thing is that this app feels like you’re getting private lessons from Mahalo’s guitar expert Jen Trani.
So what can you expect from the app? Well, you’ll start with the basics of how to hold the guitar and all its different parts then advance on to how to read guitar tablature and how to tune your instrument. Finally, you’ll finish up by learning how to play your first few chords and how to put them together into a song.
You'll cover all the basics in our 27-video series. Start to finish, the course runs about an hour long, but you should expect to spend three hours running through it at a slow, steady pace, adding in time for your own additional practice and reviewing difficult concepts. Additionally, you'll want to practice at least 20 minutes a day until these skills become second nature.

Jen Trani
Meet Jen, one of Mahalo's guitar experts. Born and raised in Denver, Jen Trani has been playing guitar in all styles since the age of 13. Having earned her bachelor's degree in music performance from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, Trani teaches guitar and plays lead with several bands. She also appeared in the Shirelles-inspired '60s musical ''Baby It's You,'' ''The Price Is Right,'' and is the composer for an online series of video shorts.
