Here at Mahalo we're always thinking of new things that people want to learn. So yesterday we put a new software tutorial into the iPad app store called "Learn Garage Band in 30 Days," and it's pretty awesome, if you ask us. This is the best tool out there for someone who's just starting off recording music. You've figured out how to strum your guitar the right way, and you finally learned that A#m7 chord on the piano. But what's music if you can't record, edit and mix it then send to all your friends?!
It's time to get started with Apple's GarageBand, an in-suite sound recording software that comes with recent Mac computer purchases. It's designed for beginners while still being advanced enough for professionals. But if you've ever opened up GarageBand, you've probably realized there's a lot more to making great music than plugging in your instrument. There are things you have to know like creating separate tracks, inputting sources and searching the loop library.
First break down the basics: create a new project, add some tracks, customize the instruments. Then fine-tune your recordings: edit the pitch, auto-tune your sound, loop a track. There are even 12 different pedal effects that you can send your instrument through. Break it down even more with the "Magic GarageBand" feature that lets you have an entire jam session on your desktop.
Joey's here to give you every tidbit of advice he can offer. How do you know which hardware pieces to attach for recording from a guitar? Joey explains what you need to know. What's the best way to get a space-y sound effect on your guitar? He's got the answer. Start to finish, your GarageBand experience is taken care of so you can focus on more important things—like what to name your newly formed band.
So power up your computer and iPad, break out the jams and learn how to make your very own smash hit!
