LAX Explosion

  • Los Angeles County firefighters and police responded to a mysterious small explosion near LAX in the 8800 block of S Sepulveda Blvd at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and La Tijera Boulevard. Several blocks of Sepulveda and Tijera were closed to allow air ambulances to land. The explosion was centered on the building housing the Water and Power Community Credit Union. 2 firefighters were injured in the blast: Brent Lovrien, who died at the age of 35 from his injuries, and Anthony Guzman, who remains in critical condition.

    LAist is reporting that the firefighters were responding to a report of an underground vault explosion. Fox News reports that three people were injured, two firefighters and one bystander, when the explosion blew the manhole covers off the top of the vault. One of the firefighters has reportedly died from his injuries.
