• Lawrence of Arabia is a classic American film based on the life of the late British soldier T.E. Lawrence and his role in the Arab Revolt of 1916-1918.

  The 1962 epic is widely regarded as one of the most influential films in the history of cinema. It is notable for its Super Panavision 70 cinematography by Freddie Young, its dramatic score by Maurice Jarre and the breakthrough performance of then newcomer Peter O'Toole.

  The historical accuracy of the film is often called into question by scholars. Many of the characters in the film are based on real people, but the film's events are largely romanticized.

  In 1989, a "restored version" of the film, created with director David Lean's participation, was released, and in 2008, a High Definition version, remastered by Sony, was telecast.

  The film is rated 5th on the American Film Institute's list of greatest American films of all time.
