Life and Career
Fishburne began acting at an early age, but his first real taste of success came when he was cast for a part in Francis Ford Coppola's film Apocalypse Now.
During the 1980s, he appeared in several plays and television shows. Later, he gained commercial success with film roles in The Matrix trilogy and Mission Impossible 3.
Fishburne won recognition for his acting when he received a Tony Award for his role in the play Two Trains Running. In 2008, he was nominated for a Tony for his performance in the Broadway production Thurgood. Fishburne also received an Oscar nomination for his part as Ike Turner in What's Love Got to Do With It?
