Model and activist Lauren Nelson was crowned the winner of the Miss America Pageant in 2007.
Career
Nelson began competing in beauty pageants in high school. She won the Miss Teen Oklahoma crown in 2004 and was selected to preform at the 2005 Miss America Pageant. In 2006, Nelson was selected as Miss Oklahoma and earned a spot in the 2007 Miss America Pageant, which she won. During her reign, she campaigned for internet safety, specifically protecting children from sexual predators. Nelson went undercover for an episode of America's Most Wanted posing as a 14 year old girl. On January 17, 2008, she won $175,000 on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? which was given to the Miss America Organization.
