  • Hockey Career

    Kukkonen was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks during the fifth round of the 2003 NHL entry draft. He spent most of the 2003-2004 season with the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate, but was called up to play in ten NHL games.

    During the NHL's locked-out 2004-2005 season, Kukkonen returned to Finland to win the SM-liiga league gold medal with his home team, Karpat.

    Kukkonen became a regular on the Chicago lineup for the 2006-2007 season, playing 54 games before he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in February of 2007. Three months later, in May, Kukkonen signed a two-year contract worth $1.7 million with the Flyers.
