Finnish professional hockey defenseman Lasse Kukkonen most recently played for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.
Kukkonen was waived by the Flyers on January 8, 2009, to create roster space for Daniel Briere. He was previously waived by the Flyers in November of 2008, but cleared waivers and remained with the team.Philadelphia Daily News: Flyers waive defenseman Kukkonen
Hockey Career
Kukkonen was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks during the fifth round of the 2003 NHL entry draft. He spent most of the 2003-2004 season with the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate, but was called up to play in ten NHL games.During the NHL's locked-out 2004-2005 season, Kukkonen returned to Finland to win the SM-liiga league gold medal with his home team, Karpat.
Kukkonen became a regular on the Chicago lineup for the 2006-2007 season, playing 54 games before he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in February of 2007. Three months later, in May, Kukkonen signed a two-year contract worth $1.7 million with the Flyers.
