  • Lars Lokke Rasmussen, a member of the Venestre Liberal Party of Denmark, was sworn in on April 5, 2009 as the Prime Minister of Denmark. In Denmark the Prime Minister is officially appointed by the monarch (Queen Margrethe II). He took over the leadership of the Liberal Party after the former leader Anders Fogh Rasmussen was selected for the position as NATO secretary-general. He remains a member of Parliament, having become a member in 1994.
  • Biography

    Lars Lokke Rasmussen was born to Jeppe Rasmussen and Lise Lokke Rasmussen on May 15, 1964, in Vejle, Denmark. He earned a legal degree from The University of Copenhagan. Rasmussen was a self-employed consultant from 1990 through 1995 and is a lawyer by profession.     Having been appointed to his position as Prime Minister by Queen Margrethe II, she asked him to try to bring together the Conservative Party and the Venestre Liberal Party, to which he told her he would take on the task.
