Larry Norman, known as "the father of Christian rock" was a singer, songwriter and producer. He was the first known artist to achieve commercial success by combining Christian music with rock, folk and gospel. In 1969, he recorded his debut solo album Upon This Rock and it was considered to be the first Christian rock album. He suffered a major heart attack in 1992 and was expected only to live briefly but recovered with limited abilities. Norman passed away on February 24, 2008 at his home after years of suffering with poor health.
