Popular Former Philadelphia news anchor Larry Mendte who took WCAU, the Philadelphia NBC O&O, to #1 in the ratings before being wooed away by KYW, Philadelphia's CBS station. KYW immediately became the fastest groing station in the country and came close to becoming #1. Mendte was also the first Host of Access Hollywood. He co-hosted the weekday show with Giselle Fernandez and the weekends with Nancy O'Dell. Mendte has also written and directed seeral documentaries which have won numerous film festivals, including "Alex Scott: A Stand for Hope" about the life of Alex Scott, the little girl who started a movement to cure childhood cancer before she died at the age of 8 of cancer. Mendte was recently fired from KYW after admitting to looking at the personal e-mail account of former co-worker Alycia Lane hundreds of times between January 2008 and May 2008. Mendte pled guilty to the charge of illegally accessing a computer, a federal offense, and was sentenced to six months of house arrest. In a statment read after his guilty plea, Mendte said that he and Alycia Lane had an "improper relationship" that ended when his wife Dawn Stensland found out. Mendte says what was once a close relationship turned into "a personal fued" and that Lane was trying to get him fired. At the sentencing, Mendte apologized to Lane, who was present at the courtroom. Charitable Work
Mendte's charity work is extensive. Mendte served on the executive board of Alex's lemonade Stand and the Alzheimer's Association. He also served on the advisory board for Make A Wish. Mendte has been involved with The Juvenile Diabetes Association, The Red Cross, the United Way, Jewish Employment and Vocational Services, The Archdiocese of Philadelphia, The Liver Foundation, The Burn Foundation, The Little Rock Foundation, the Hepatitis B Foundation and The Police Athletic League to name a few.Mendte also fought to keep his grade school, Saint Philomena's and has done fundraising for his High School, Monsignor Bonner, as well as his college, West Chester University. He has also done a number of charitable appearances and fundraisers for Veteran's groups and the Irish Community.
It was s series of stories by Mendte that forced the City to re-light the Eternal Flame. The flame that burned in honor of service men and women who died for our country in Philadelphia's historic Washington Square was extinguished because of neglect.
Mendte also put together several documentaries on soldiers who died in Iraq.
