Early Life and Career
Larry Ellison was born in New York City to an unwed mother who gave him for adoption to his aunt and uncle in Chicago. He dropped out of college and moved to California to pursue a career in the computer and tech industry.
In the 1970s Ellison devised a database for the Central Intelligence Agency which he called Oracle. He then founded his own company, Oracle, in 1977, providing $2000 out his own pocket for seed money. Oracle dominated the software industry well into the late 1990s when it started receiving competition from Microsoft.
