Lap-Band Surgery utilizes an adjustable gastric band that restricts the amount of food the stomach can hold at one time. As a result, the individual feels satisfied, not hungry. Lap-band surgery consists of a silicone ring placed around the upper part of the stomach via laparoscopic surgery. Saline water can then be added or removed to adjust the band as needed to reduce side effects and improve weight loss. Gastric banding is an FDA approved system to help individuals conquer morbid obesity and weight-related health issues. Lap-band surgery is not for everyone and requires a thorough assessment to determine its appropriateness.
