Lane Kiffin Background
Kiffin joined Tennessee in late 2008 and coached the team to a 7-6 record, placing second in the SEC East and falling in the Chick-fil-A Bowl to the Virginia Tech Hokies. The season was also marred by violations in SEC rules, including negative comments about Florida Gators football coach Urban Meyer, and accusations of recruiting violations.
Prior to Tennessee, Kiffin was fired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders on September 30, 2008. During his two seasons leading the Raiders they won five of their 20 games.
