Landon Donovan was born on March 4, 1982, in Ontario, California. At five years of age he joined his first competitive league. Playing against primarily older competition and more experienced players, Landon did more than hold his own, scoring seven goals in his first game. Ten years later Donovan began playing for the United States National Soccer Team in the Under 17 (U-17) team. He began drawing the attention of many major English clubs, including renowned ones such as Manchester United and Arsenal, who each invited him to try out for their team. Donovan ended up signing with German club Bayer Leverkusen because that team showed the most interest. http://www.landondonovan.com/donovan/about When the World Cup came around in 2002, the United States didn’t have that high of expectations. Donovan was the leader and the captain of the team. In 2009, Landon once again got off to a quick start to the MLS season. With the help of David Beckham and Head Coach/GM Bruce Arena, the Los Angeles Galaxy was an extremely improved team. Throughout the season, Landon was the unquestioned leader of the Galaxy, scoring 12 goals, assisting on 6 others, being named to the MLS All-Star Team for the ninth straight year and to the All-League Team for the third time, and being crowned MLS MVP for the first time in his career.
