1951: Land Rovers outsell all Rover vehicles this year by a two to one margin.
1954: The 86" and 107" Land Rovers are introduced.
1958: The Land Rover Series II debuts with a four-
cylinder, 2,286cc engine.
1961: The Land Rover Series IIA debuts with a diesel engine.
1962: The 12-seater Land Rover station wagon and the Series IIA forward control are introduced.
1966: A six-cylinder petrol engine becomes an option for the standard 109" Land Rover.
1968: The one ton Land Rover model debuts.
1970: The Range Rover debuts.
1971: The Land Rover Series III debuts.
1979: The Stage One 109" V8 debuts.
1983: The 110" Land Rover debuts.
1984: The 90" Land Rover debuts.
1990: The Land Rover Discovery debuts and both the 90" and 110" Land Rovers are rebranded as the Defender.
1994: British Aerospace sells Rover to BMW and the P38 Range Rover debuts.
1996: The Classic Range Rover ends production.
1997: The Freelander debuts.
2000: BMW sells Land Rover to Ford.
2002: The Range Rover Mk III debuts.
2004: The Discovery 3 debuts.c
2005: The Range Rover Sport debuts.
2007: Ford announces their plan to sell Land Rover to Jaguar Cars and Tata Motors of India expresses interest in
purchasing both Jaguar and Land Rover.
2008: Tata Motors finalizes their purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Company.
