  • Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard was killed in Afghanistan after his convey was hit by an RGP in August 2009. In the moments after his legs were severed in the bombing, an embedded Associated Press reporter, Julie Jacobson and AP cameraman Ken Teh chronicled his final moments. Despite the objection of Bernard's family and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, the AP published the images of the dying marine on September 4, 2009, along with an article titled "Afghan War: Death of a Marine."http://www.sltrib.com/nationworld/ci_13267099
