Lactose intolerance is a condition in which the body does not tolerate lactose, the sugar enzyme in dairy products.
Consequently, when a lactose intolerant person ingests lactose, his or her inability to digest the enzyme causes discomfort.
Lactose intolerance is more common in adults, as it usually develops over time. Newborns are infrequently lactose intolerant.
