Marathon History

First established in 1986, the Los Angeles Marathon has been held each year for the last 25 years. The marathon regularly draws around 25,000 participants each year. For the 2010 race, it was announced that the theme would be "Stadium to Sea". This course lead runners from the starting point at Dodger Stadium to the finish line in the city of Santa Monica.

The winners for the marathon this year each won a new Honda Accord V6 in addition to a cash prize of $35,000. There is also another opportunity for marathon contestants to earn a $100,000 cash prize through the Banco Popular Challenge. Beginning in 2004 the challenge was first offered and the female contestants were given a headstart. The amount of headstart time that the female contestants are given is determined by calculating the difference between the men's time and the women's course records.
