  Prior to playing in the NFL, Smith played college football with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He recorded 122 catches for 1,458 yards and 10 touchdowns, going down as second in school history for a tight end.   After college, Smith was selected 61st overall in the 2003 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
