Kyle Eckel

Kyle Eckel is an NFL fullback for the New Orleans Saints. He signed as an undrafted free agent out of the United States Naval Academy in 2005 by the New England Patriots. Eckel played in five games for his hometown team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in 2008.

College Career

Kyle Eckel played fullback for Navy. As a sophomore he finished second on the team in rushing yards. Eckel rushed for over 1,000 in both his junior and senior seasons at Navy. He finished as the fourth all time leading rusher in school history with 2,906 yards. Kyle Eckel was also fourth in school history in rushing touchdowns with 25 and in 100 yard games, with 13. NFL Career

Kyle Eckel was signed as a free agent by the New England Patriots on April 29, 2005. He was waived by on September 4, 2005 and was signed the next day by the Miami Dolphins. Eckel was on the reserve/military list from September 7, 2005 to November 2, 2006. He was waved by the Dolphins on September 1, 2007, without ever playing a game.

New England resigned Eckel and he made his first appearance against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 1, 2007. His first career touchdown came against the Dallas Cowboys on November 14, 2007. For the season, Eckel played in 12 games, rushed for 90 yards and scored two touchdowns. He appeared in two postseason games, including Super Bowl XLII.

Eckel started the 2008 season with New England, but was waived on September 22. A month later he was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in five regular season games and three postseason games for the Eagles. For the season he rushed for 79 yards on 24 attempts and made three special teams tackles in the postseason.

He was waived by the Eagles just prior to the start of the 2009 season. Eckel was then signed by the New Orleans Saints on October 29, 2009.
