Kublai Khan, the grandson of Genghis Khan, was a Mongol military leader and emperor of China from 1271 - 1294. Kublai Khan also established himself as the first emperor of the Mongolian Dynasty.

The Mongol Emperor of China from 1279-1294, Kublai Khan was responsible for the flourishing epoch in Chinese history known as the Yuan Dynasty. Kublai encouraged developments in math, language and religion and was acclaimed Great Khan in 1260. Declaring the Yuan Dynasty in China, Kublai proceeded to undertake a series of attacks on Japan and Vietnam. Shortly after an invasion in Vietnam, Kublia died from problems with gout.
