Kronos Quartet

  • Formed in 1973 by violinist David Harrington, the critically-acclaimed chamber group Kronos Quartet has released over 40 recordings of an electric range of classical, experimental, world, jazz, rock and pop music.

    Kronos is renown for performing experimental music, commissioning new work and performing arrangements of work not conventionally associated with chamber music ensembles. The group has performed the work of composers Terry Riley, Steve Reich, George Crumb and Astor Piazzolla; performed live with Tom Waits, David Bowie and Bjork; and collaborated with Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle, soprano Dawn Upshaw, poet Allen Ginsberg and Nine Inch Nails.

    The group has been nominated for a Grammy Award and were named Musical America's Musicians of the Year in 2003.
