Photos of Kristin Davis from an alleged sex tape leaked online on March 17, 2008, and created controversy for the Sex and the City and Melrose Place star. Approximately 20 photos have appeared featuring a woman who resembles Davis -- although not strongly enough to settle doubts as to her identity -- who is engaging in various familiar activities, sometimes with the help of a male partner. The photos were allegedly taken by a boyfriend, circa 1992, who later sold them because he was "angry" at Davis. Speculation has arisen, as well, that the timing of the alleged tape had something to do with the spring 2008 release of the much-anticipated Sex and the City movie. The gossip site TMZ.com spoke with someone who claimed to be involved in the release of the photos. The source said that no tape exists, but that the photos are genuine. Davis's representatives have insisted that the woman in the photos is not Davis.
