The remains of Kristy Cornwell were discovered January 1, 2011, by her brother, Richard Cornwell. Richard Cornwell was searching for her remains roughly nine miles from where she was believed kidnapped. Police identified a likely suspect in her murder, James Scott Carringer, who shot and killed himself following a stand-off with Atlanta police in the spring of 2010.
