The Krimmler Falls, are located in Salzburg, Austria. The falls are also identified by three other names Krimmler Wasserfalle, Krimml Falls and Krimmler Wasserfaelle. The falls consist of three levels, the upper level, the middle level and the lower level. There is a paved trail all the way to the top, and total walking time would be four to five hours. The total height of the falls are one thousand two hundred forty seven feet, which makes them the highest in Europe, and the fifth highest in the world.
The falls flow into the Danube River and then into the Black Sea. The flow of the water from the falls, in gallons per second, varies depending on the time of year. In June and July, it flows about five million gallons per hour, while in August it flows at about one hundred sixty million gallons per hour. In 1796 the falls were said to be the largest and most magnificent natural drama in Salzburg.
In 1983, the falls became a part of the national park Hohe Tauern, which preserves its beauty. From the village of Krimml, there are nine different look out points, and from the town of Zell Am See, tourists can take a bus ride to view the falls. Next to the falls is the WasserWonderWelt (Wonder World of Water) museum with an outdoor aqua park. The falls are open to the public from May 1st until October 31st yearly.
