Body of Work
Ichikawa's work can not be characterized in one specific genre. He made art films, documentaries, war films, mysteries and dramas during a career that spanned almost 60 years. Although outwardly electic, many of his films had similar themes. Film critic Tadao Sato noted that "he took the works seriously no matter the subject...even his light entertainments had class."The Japan Times: Director Ichikawa, 92, Dies (February 14, 2008) Times Online: Kon Ichikawa (March 11, 2008) senses of cinema: Kon Ichikawa
