Kohl's History
The first Kohl's store was opened in 1962 in Brookfield, Wisconsin. In 1978 the store was bought by the British American Tobacco Company (BATC), which expanded the one store into 38 more locations before selling the chain in 1986 when Kohl's senior management organized a group of investors to buy the chain.
By 1988 they had expanded the chain to a total of 66 stores. The company offered its first public stocks for purchase in 1992. The stock split two for one in 1996, at which time there were more than 100 Kohl's department stores. Kohl’s owns a number of food and clothing brands in the US: Jumping Beans is Kohl's brand of children's items. Gold Toe is the company's brand of mens socks. ELLE is also a Kohl's brand, as is the Bobby Flay line. Lauren Conrad Clothing Line
Star of MTV's hit show The Hills, Lauren Conrad, announced in August of 2010 that she will be releasing a new line of clothing designed for middle school and high school age girls. The new designs hit the market in time for Kohl's back to school sales in the summer of 2010.
