Knotts Berry Farm

Knotts Berry Farm is a theme park in Buena Park, CA that features rides, shows, restaurants, a water park, haunted houses and a ghost town. It began as an actual working berry farm in the 1920s run by Walter and Cordelia Knott. To help with finances during the Great Depression, the couple sold jams and jelly to locals. Walter Knott opened a restaurant in 1934 showcasing Cordelia Knott's chicken dinners. As a way to entertain the thousands of visitors to the restaurant each week, Walter opened Knott's Ghost Town. He created it by moving in structures from ghost towns around the country Later this became just one of the themed sections of Knott's Berry Farm.http://www.knotts.com/public/news/history/index.cfm

A broken cable injured two in 2009 and caused the Xcelerator roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm to be shut down while an investigation of the accident took place. The Xcelerator is a roller coaster that is designed to make it's riders feel like they've gone back in time to the 50s or 60s. The track is 2,200 feet long and it gets up to 200 feet in the air. In 2 and a half seconds from the launch, the ride is going 80 mph as it travels up to its peak and drops straight at 90 degrees. The accident happened on the Xcelerator on September 18, 2009. The ride was running and some of the cables snapped, causing injury to two people, a man and a 12-year-old. In 2003, the Stagecoach lost its break power and ran into a fence, killing a child, a horse and injuring two other guests. A woman fell out of a water ride two years earlier and died. The park has now updated their rides, offering better restraints and seat-belts.
