About Knewton

Knewton has developed the industry’s first adaptive learning engine, customizing educational content to meet the needs of each student.

Knewton's GMAT prep, LSAT prep, and SAT Prep courses bring the brightest and most experienced teachers directly to students worldwide via a live and on-demand online video classroom. Knewton classes allow students to save time and raise their scores by studying precisely what the concepts they need.

Whereas traditional classrooms and textbooks provide the same material to every student, Knewton dynamically addresses each student's performance at the atomic concept level, matching lessons, videos, and practice problems to each student's ideal learning arc.

Knewton currently offers online GMAT prep, LSAT prep, and SAT prep courses. Some of the hallmarks of each course are:

Unlike old school test prep, Knewton doesn't employ thousands of newbie, unproven teachers across the country. Knewton hires the brightest, most dynamic SAT Prep, GMAT Prep, and LSAT Prep teachers in the country, and brings them directly to students worldwide via a live and on-demand video classroom. All students, regardless of location, get the same superior quality instruction.

Each student receives instant, concept-by-concept data about his performance throughout the course of his GMAT course, LSAT course, or SAT course course. (Plus, parents of SAT students get their own log-ins with up-to-the-minute feedback). Students can see how they're doing on hundreds of concepts, at any time. The course will pinpoint and prioritize exactly what each student needs to increase his score.

What could be better than test prep at home, on the couch, in pajamas? No more strip malls, no more commuting, no more test centers. Students can study when, and where, they want.

Study online and prep green. No more books. No paper required. No traffic. No parking. No petrochemicals.

Other companies charge $1300-$1600 to cover the costs of hundreds of physical locations, thousands of local employees and teachers, and millions of pages of printed material. As an online course, Knewton can deliver the best teachers and technology for a fraction of this price. And the company's Money-Back Guarantee takes the risk out of test preparation. Knewton guarantees their online GMAT preparation course will boost each student's score at least 50 points; the online LSAT preparation course guarantees an increase of at least 5 points; and the online SAT preparation course guarantees at least 150 points—or students get their money back. Compare Knewton GMAT to other GMAT prep courses.

Adaptive learning is an educational method which uses computers to create interactive, customizable learning environments. Adaptive learning has been partially driven by a realization that tailored learning cannot be achieved on a large-scale using traditional, non-adaptive approaches. Adaptive learning systems endeavor to transform the learner from passive receptor of information to collaborator in the educational process.

Under the Knewton model, each student's learning plan is personalized at an atomic level, and constantly readjusted based on his or her every action. Every day, Knewton will dynamically put together a unique study plan: Students receive content sorted by concept, difficulty, and media type, and are consistently exposed to the material in order that they don't forget key concepts.

Knewton starts by assigning tags to each piece of educational content—more than 100,000 tags in total! Every concept is categorized down to the level from which it can no longer be divided. Then we track, at this same atomic level, how you interact with each concept. If we notice that you learn certain concepts better by watching video, then for related concepts in the future, you get more video. If we notice that on certain concepts you learn better if you work through a specific number (or difficulty level) of practice questions, then for related concepts in the future, that's what you'll get.

Additional Features:

  • Concept Queue: Concepts for review appear in your concept queue. You'll see adaptive learning everyday via your queue, which lists only the atomic concepts you need to learn. When you master concepts, items come off the top. As you're exposed to new concepts, items are added to the bottom of the queue.

  • Calendar: The two week calendar lists all the Knewton events you have coming up. You can personalize your calendar by telling us how many hours you are planning to study, and/or what times you have available. For instance, if you tell us you're going to do homework every Tuesday and Thursday from 2-4, the calendar automatically ports in the appropriate concepts from the queue. The calendar's schedule is as disciplined or flexible as you want it to be. If you need a disciplined schedule, that's what it'll provide. But if you miss a class or homework, it will automatically re-calibrate and optimize in real-time.
