Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a comedy drama film about a petty thief, Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr.), who stumbles into an acting audition when running from the police. He poses as an actor and is taken to Hollywood for an audition. There he meets a detective Gay Perry (Val Kilmer), who helps him to research for his acting role. He meets his highschool crush, Harmony Lane (Michelle Monaghan). Partly based on a novel by Brett Halliday, Bodies Are Where You Find Them. Phoenix Film Critics Society awarded the film with "Overlooked Film of the Year" for 2005.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a comedic, and mystery, film written and directed by Shane Black. The movie is a mix and parody of different genres. The film utilizes conventions of comedy, action, mystery, and romance, than twists all the audience's expectations on it's head, creating surprise and suspense along the way. Writer and director Shane Black is a veteran of 80's and 90's buddy action films. He was the writer of such films as Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, and Last Action Hero. The film was widely regarded as a critical success and although it was unable to generate significant success at the box office, the film is considered a comeback for writer and director Shane Black.
